Family portraits are elusive. They can be difficult to arrange and I think are the reason people associate photography with bad experiences. (You know what I mean by that, right?) I blame the days of stuffy studios with stonewashed backdrops. When enough is finally enough, and you decide to try and capture a new family portrait, it’s time to do things differently (in my mind). Which I’m guessing is why Amy (in the gray dress, who was also my college roommate) thought of me. The session was planned as a birthday present for Amy’s mom, and honestly knowing how hard it is for families to get together for pictures I can’t think of a better present. We started by meeting up at Oak Hill in Rochester, New York. Everywhere you turned there was a scenic spot at Oak Hill, and as the host of the upcoming 2013 PGA Championship (among other events) it’s no surprise. Here’s just a few from the session:
As I write this I think I owe my mom some family pictures. You would think as a photographer I would be good at that, but I’m not so sure. I’m going to make a mental note of taking some this coming spring – once my niece or nephew has arrived and is a few months old!
