Wedding Wednesday : start the wedding planning

This is a new series of Wednesday posts you can look forward to – Wedding Wednesday…  except today it’s Wedding Thursday. So why didn’t I write yesterday? Well I had the hardest time finding internet. Our moving date has been pushed up so comcast has already pulled the plug… literally. We actually drove around last night at let’s just say at one point we were parked outside of Panera (it had closed) and sat in the car to pick up the signal. Crazy, I know but it worked.

It’s been just about a week since I found out my friend from high school, Maureen got engaged. By the time we talked I suspected I’d be hearing the news – a few ambiguous congratulatory remarks on facebook tend to do that. It didn’t matter, because I was just as excited when I talked to her and heard the story of her engagement… and seriously, there’s nothing like that time. She could hardly contain her excitement, and it was contagious. I kind of wish I could go back but instead I’ll just enjoy celebrating and working with everyone who is at that stage.

As we talked about what her wedding plans might be, we skimmed over a few different possibilities and acknowledged the fact that they were hundreds more. It’s at this point in the process there are so many factors, so many different opinions, and it can be overwhelming. There are also major factors that play in to planning a wedding that might steer you in one direction over another. Now, I love themed weddings and carefully designed events as much as the next girl – and photographer – but when it comes down to it, it’s still about the wedding. When family and friends come together to celebrate the love of a couple that makes a wedding a wedding and sometimes that’s hard to remember during the planning.

Not to contradict myself, but there’s nothing like a well planned wedding. The details come together, the personality of the couple shines through, and it often can be summed up in a phrase or a few words. To get to that point, you’ll be looking for inspiration and luckily for you there are hundreds of blogs that you could pour hours into (plus there’s still magazines and we all need a break from our computer screens). Maybe you build your wedding around your venue, your location, your favorite activity, color, you name it, but as weddings continue to break with tradition and become more and more personalized I say go for it! Infuse as much of your personality and relationship as you can – or would like – and that will make it a memorable event. Also, I didn’t think this before I became a wedding photographer but I think wedding planners can be a good investment… or a very creative friend who serves as a wedding planner perhaps :) Either way I would most definitely suggest that brides involve other people in their wedding planning. You don’t want to be the one worrying about everything on the wedding day – give those jobs to someone else.

So to get you started, head over to one of these blogs and get ready for inspiration overload.
