*NEW office

newoffice1

I have a new office because, well, we moved! If you haven’t caught up on that you can read about it here: the move : Harrisonburg, VA: Matt and I have been doing lots of household projects to spruce the place up and make it feel like home, so naturally getting my “office” set up was high on the list so I could keep rolling out the photos :]

I should give credit where credit is due, and say that Matt really helps get things done. I take my time and like to do it right, make sure that I like it, etc… and Matt’s all for that, but he doesn’t let things slide until that happens. So, let’s just say this is a work in progress. As you can see, I have hardly anything on the walls and am trying to decide what I want to do with that – perhaps a set of frames above the cabinet wall? Something fun and interchangeable in front of my desk that I can put up bits of inspiration on? If you have some suggestions let me know, and I’ll keep you updated on what I do.

So, for a formal intro to my new little room, I have my nice little IKEA desk in the corner with the necessary computer and tablet hooked up – and lifesaver on the wrist when you can use the pen + mouse interchangeably. The IKEA bookshelf that is horizontal next to my desk houses most of my paperwork, packaging, and additional gear while also acting as a little station I can do some wrapping/packing at for prints + whatnot. For this room, we started with painting the walls with 2 colors of our leftover oops paint, and then picked up the curtains + rug at IKEA, both way on sale and totally worth it. I guess I should say most of this little office is IKEA, but the chair I have is actually from my grandparents. The globe lamps in the corner have traveled with us for a while, and add some much needed light and interest to the corner. I’m not sure if the extra space between my desk, the corner, and the shelf is awkward… maybe I need a plant? what do you think?

Here’s a view of the wall across from my desk, which is basically Matt’s side of the room. He has a desk – and yes that’s an exercise ball (if you haven’t tried sitting or more commonly exercising on one of those I recommend it) – which proudly sits under two of the five prints made to advertise the Race 2 Replace (which is confusing now since Lance is out of retirement – will they have a second R2R when he retires again?) anyways, I gave him the set as a birthday gift and I think they’ve made his list of prized possessions. That strange built in cabinet/door on the wall? One of those old-fashioned built in ironing boards, of course.

I hope you enjoyed my little tour. When I’m at home, that is to say when I’m not traveling for weddings, I’ll usually be sitting working at this desk editing photos, writing emails, and blogging of course!

marydougherty - show me this umbrella plant! got the orchid – made matt buy it for me :] and yes, that’s a real pic of Ian – a sample of a “standout” (photo mounted to foam for easy hanging)… sitting on the exercise ball right now

marydougherty - yeah I don’t think they would be too hard to make, but looks like you have experience. and no, the house isn’t that old – I don’t really know to much about it though

marydougherty - lots of good ideas, thanks guys! 2 improvements I made so far: hung up the large clock I had (wasn’t unpacked) and bought an orchid!

Heather - I love the office..it’s so cute! Ikea is my favorite! I think a nice big plant would look really nice in the room! Either in front of the window or maybe even in front of the ironing board if you think it looks to bare there.

Also, we got our picture cd! Our family is having a great time picking out their favorites! Thank you so much! :)

sarah - miss mar mar,

great office! love the two colors of paint, ikea furnishings – all of it. After careful consideration, i think you should definitely put in a plant between your desk and the shelf – especially because it looks like that window gets lots of sunlight. perfect for an indoor-sun loving plant, like an orchid or an “umbrella plant”. Those are my two favs that I’ve grown inside. They are smaller so you’d need a little plant stand holder which are easy to find and probably fit perfect in that space. So is that a real pic of Ian on your shelf or is that photoshopped in? regardless, i love the picture. And that’s so funny that you have a built-in ironing board! I wish our old house had one because i don’t have a full-size ironing board. do you ever use it? hee hee. also do you sometimes just sit on the excercise ball, just to practice stability? i’ve heard that was a good thing to do.
Ok, this was an extra looooong comment!
