in the business of remembering

You know how memories age over time? You forget somethings, remember others and probably a few things evolve along the way. Photographs fill in the gaps and allow you to re-live moments and experiences, but also allow you to see something in a new light. I think that’s one of the reasons I love the photo above. It’s the perfect memory to me of a wedding dress; the light streaming through the window gives it an ethereal quality. This is also a moment that I think can only be captured on film/pixels. If you saw me set this up, you would probably laugh first, and then wonder why I was standing on a chair hanging a wedding dress in front of a window. Then again, when you’re hiring a photographer, you are really hiring a perspective. You like the way they see things through the camera and want to be captured in that way as well. So, I suppose I’m in the business of remembering, since photography is not just about the present, but the past and the future as well… and I love adding to the memories people will look back on.

Nita - It’s so funny that you post this now, just this week my mom and I were trying to figure out who bustled her dress when she married my stepdad.

I have always placed trust in photos saving moments since I cannot remember anything… :)
